World acclaimed martial-arts star Donnie Yen appeared today at “A Starry Night of Enchanting Music”, a music appreciation event held by Allianz Global Investors, where he performed a piano duet with 14 year-old Lang Lang International Music Foundation Scholarship winner Kate Lee. The pair played Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu. This was Yen’s first-ever public piano performance in Hong Kong, and superbly presented the mellow side of the martial arts star.
Allianz Global Investors launched its new Chinese name this June, a milestone that was celebrated by “A Starry Night of Enchanting Music”. The event was also the kick-off point for a new endeavour aimed at nurturing young musicians from the Asia Pacific. Donnie Yen said, “Allianz Global Investors is committed to contributing to the community, and cultivating musical talent in order to unlock their potential. I find this a very meaningful project.”
Under the new Allianz Global Investors branding, the company will continue both to expand its businesses and fulfil its corporate social responsibilities, by embracing its two-word philosophy “Understand. Act.”
Since 2013, the parent company of Allianz Global Investors, the Allianz Group, has sponsored the “Allianz Lang Lang Junior Music Camp” organized by the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. The camp provides an outstanding opportunity for young pianists from around the globe to learn from Lang Lang and share his passion in music. In line with the Music Camp recruitment process, Allianz Global Investors has launched “Allianz Global Investors Junior Music Excursion (Asia Pacific)”. This event will give talented young musicians from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Singapore the chance to further enhance their piano skills. Donnie Yen, who has encouraged his daughter’s love of music by introducing her to the piano at a young age, believes that Allianz Global Investors Junior Music Excursion (Asia Pacific) is a valuable opportunity for young musical talents to learn from other elite Asia Pacific musicians, and he plans to encourage his daughter to apply for the Excursion.
Allianz Global Investors Junior Music Excursion (Asia Pacific) will be held in Hong Kong, with openings for two applications from each of the regions. Selected musicians will be given full sponsorship to come to Hong Kong this summer, where they will get to attend masterclasses given by renowned pianist, Ms Hui Ling, and by Ms Zhao Ling, Associate Professor of Piano at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. As the elite young pianists of the Asia Pacific, they will also benefit from learning from one another.
