Fund Commentary

China equities began the year on a weaker note due to ongoing concerns about the domestic economy and the likelihood of higher US tariffs. Chinese start-up DeepSeek shook financial markets, particularly the US tech sector, by announcing it had developed a chatbot with the same functionality as OpenAI’s ChatGPT – but at a fraction of the cost. In economic news, China reported GDP growth of 5.4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, accelerating from the third quarter’s 4.6% year-on-year growth rate. Throughout 2024, China’s economy grew by 5%, meeting Beijing’s official target, as exports and stimulus measures offset weak domestic demand. Towards the end of January, the US administration imposed 10% tariffs on Chinese imports.

    • Allianz Global Investors Choice Fund (the “Trust”) is an umbrella unit trust established under HK laws pursuant to the Trust Deed with different sub-Funds, each with a different investment objective and/or risk profile.
